Dr Maurine Thomson BVSc FACVSc (Specialist)  

Dr Thomson is a Specialist Surgical Oncologist, and has been caring exclusively for veterinary patients with cancer for 13 years.  She is a specialist in general small animal surgery, and further subspecialising in surgical oncology. Maurine is particulary interested in thoracic, abdominal and reconstructive surgery. She has previously examined many times for the Australian College of Veterinary Scientists in Small Animal Surgery at both Membership and Fellowship levels, and written several chapters in different textbooks on veterinary oncology.  Maurine is well respected by her peers and liked by her patients, and is a welcome addition the the team of Specialists at VSS.
   
Dr Kathleen O'Connell BVSc MACVSc  
 
Dr O'Connell has been dedicated to the field of oncology since working on a human melanoma trial at the Princess Alexandra Hospital in 2001. Her passion for oncology was initially sparked after compleing training on biomedical science and immunology which led to writing a thesis focusing on tumour cell migration.

Kathleen began her veterinary studies in 2002 with the hopes of further pursuing her oncological career, but at this time with animals. Since graduating she worked in general practice in Brisbane before commencing training as a resident in Medical Oncology, under the direct supervision of Dr Maurine Thomson.  Kathleen's current areas of interest include haematological cancer, melanomas and mast cell tumours.
                                                        

Together Maurine and Kathleen offer a comprehensive  and compassionate approach to the treatment of cancer in pets.
