Dr Gavaghan graduated with a Bachelor of Veterinary Science degree from the University of Queensland in 1985 and was accepted as a Member of the Australian College of Veterinary Science (Canine Medicine) in 1991. He then went on to complete the cardiology residency program at the University of California – Davis, in 1998. Dr Gavaghan returned to Australia and was accepted by examination in 2000 as a Fellow of the Australian College of Veterinary Scientists in Cardiology. He is the director of Veterinary Cardiology and Imaging (VCI) and operates a cardiology referral service at Veterinary Specialist Services (VSS -Brisbane), North Coast Veterinary Specialists (NCVS – Sunshine Coast) and the Animal Referral Hospital (ARH-Sydney). His research and clinical interests include the quantification of diastolic dysfunction, interventional cardiology and feline persistent atrial standstill. Dr Gavaghan has presented many hours of post-graduate lectures and has been published in Australia, North America and Asia. Family pets include: a dog, a cat, 2 and a half horses (one is a minature), 2 cows, 2 goats, 2 ducks, 6 chickens and a goldfish.    
Dr Fiona Campbell

Dr Fiona Campbell graduated as a veterinarian from the University of Queensland in 1996. After graduation, she worked in small animal practice in the United Kingdom and Australia for 2 years before undertaking a PhD at the University of Queensland. In 2001, she became a member of the Australian College of Veterinary Scientists (small animal medicine) and worked as a small animal medicine clinician in the University of Queensland Veterinary Teaching Hospital. In 2003 she began a 3-year residency program in all-species cardiology at the University of California, Davis and passed the board examinations to become a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (Cardiology) in 2006. Fiona completed an externship during 2006 at the paediatric cardiology facility of Boston Children’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School. She returned to Australia in 2007 where she now divides her time between the University of Queensland, where she is a Senior Lecturer in Veterinary Cardiology, and Veterinary Specialist Services, where she pursues her passion of helping pets with heart disease.
