 Dr Bruce Mackay has been a veterinarian for 30 years since graduating from the University of Queensland (BVSc) in 1979. Spending most of his time in small animal private practice, he has a wealth of experienced with small animal veterinary medicine. His clients and their pets inspired him to begin the long journey of study to sit his specialty exams. After training at University of Queensland, Murdoch University in Perth and Universities in California and North Carolina, he achieved his dream of becoming a Fellow of The Australian College of Veterinary Scientists in 2000. Dr Mackay co-founded Veterinary Specialist Services with the idea of providing excellence in veterinary medicine with a great team of specialist veterinarians all passionate about dogs and cats. Although very keen in all aspects of internal medicine, his special interests include gastro-enterology, endocrinology, cardiology and oncology. Bruce continues to be passionate about administering the best possible care to the animals he is privileged to treat. A wagging tail and a grateful lick still mean volumes to this veterinarian who has seen so many changes in his time as a veterinarian  
 Dr Terry King BVSc MACVSc (Brisbane)
Emergency & Critical Care
   

Dr Terry King was born and raised in Townsville, North Queensland.  He graduated with his Bachelor of Veterinary Science from the University of Queensland in 1975. Over his 19 years in private practice in Brisbane’s north western suburbs, Terry accumulated a wealth of knowledge and experience in small animal practice. 

After a year's sojourn in the USA and Brisbane's Animal Emergency Centre, Terry joined the University of Queensland Veterinary Teaching Hospital in late 1995 as a medical resident. He went on to become the Director of the Clinic and Hospital in 1997 and again in 2002. Terry joined the team at Veterinary Specialist Services as a Director in 2003. Terry’s real passion arises from the emergency side of veterinary practice, particularly the intricacy of understanding and treating the critically ill. He is highly committed to family veterinary medicine, emergency and critical treatment and prolonging the human-animal bond.

Dr Ann Thompson BVSc (Hons) MACVSc MS DipACVIM (Brisbane)
Internal Medicine Specialist –Small Animal
 
 

Ann graduated from the University of Queensland in 1997. After graduation Ann worked in general practice in Melbourne and the UK before returning to the University of Queensland Veterinary Teaching Hospital for an internship. Whilst at UQ she obtained her membership in small animal internal medicine. Ann then briefly worked at VSS before heading to the United States to pursue a residency in small animal internal medicine at Purdue University Veterinary Teaching Hospital in Indiana. In her 3 years at Purdue Ann developed an interest in endocrinology, gastroenterology and urinary tract diseases. During her residency Ann helped train veterinary and technician students, interns and residents. In the last year of her residency Ann was awarded the Katie Mcallister compassion award for compassionate care of her patients voted by veterinary students and veterinary faculty. Ann achieved her Masters in veterinary medicine in 2006 and passed her internal medicine exams at the end of her training program in 2006. She achieved her Diplomate in Small Animal Internal Medicine awarded by the American college of Veterinary medicine in March 2007. Ann returned to Australia in July 2006 to start working as part of the internal medicine team at VSS. Ann’s current areas of interest are urinary, endocrinology and non invasive diagnostic and interventional procedures. Ann is a registered specialist in Canine and Feline medicine.
 

Dr Rachel Korman  

BVSc GPCertFelP MACVS MRCVS

   
 After graduating from the University of Queensland in 2000, Rachel worked in small animla practice in both Australia and the United Kingdom and received a "Cynthia Award" by the Feline Advisory Bureau for her dedication to cats.  Rachel completed three years as the Feline Advisory Bureau Senior Clinical Training Scholar at the University of Bristol and plans to complete the European Diploma in Companion Animal Internal Medicine in 2012.
She is a member of the Feline Expert Panel, a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Feline Medicine and Surgery, and a contributing author to the British Small Animal Veterinary Association Manual of Feline Practice. Her research into acute phase proteins in feline infection won the best clinical research abstract presentation at the BSAVA Congress in 2011.
Rachel has lectured extensively in the United Kingdom and Europe and areas of interest include feline haematological disease, geriatric medicine and liver disease. She has a partially sighed cat (Maus), a terror of a kitten (Moriarty) and a very unique, deaf dog called Wombat. She divides her spare time between the three of them!
 

Dr Vicki Stenner

Vicki graduated from the University of Queensland in 1994 and worked in general practice in Melbourne and England before completing a three year residency in Small Animal Medicine at the University of Melbourne in 2001.  During this time she completed her Fellowship Training (Canine Medicine) under the supervision of Dr Steven Holloway as well as a Masters of Veterinary Sciences. Following this Vicki has worked in referral centres in Melbourne and Brisbane, working for 8 years at the University of Queensland Veterinary Teaching Hospital, and 12 months at Queensland Veterinary Specialists. Vicki's interests include neurology, endocrinology, medical emergencies and critical care of the medical patient.
Dr Wendy Agnew BVSc (Hons) (Brisbane)
 
 
   
Wendy grew up in the midwest USA. After first seeking the sunny weather of California and obtaning a degree in marine biology there, she permanently relocated to Brisbane in 2000. She graduated with a Bachelor of Veterinary Science from the University of Queensland in 2006. Wendy undertook an internship with Veterinary Specialist Services in 2007, and commenced her residency in Small Animal Medicine in 2010, the same year she obtained her MACVSc qualification. Although she is interested in all aspects of internal medicine, her special areas of interest include gastroenterology, endocrinology, immune-mediated disease and critical care. Wendy is currently on maternity leave, but is looking forward to returning to her patients and clients early in 2012.
 

Dr Danielle Bowles BVSc (Hons) FACVSc
Specialist - Small Animal Internal Medicine

   
 Danielle grew up in Toowoomba and is a University of Queensland gradaute (2004). She worked in general practice in Townsville for 4 months before starting a internship at BVSC in 2005.  Upon the completion of her internship she moved to New Zealand where she commenced a small animal medicine residency and obtained her Membership in Small Animal Medicine in 2008. Danielle returned to Australia in mid 2010 to join VSS as a Medicine Registrar.  Her aim is to sit her Fellowship examinations in Small Animal Medicine in 2011.  Her interests include: immune related disease, endsocopy, cardiology, oncology and the psychology of veterinary medicine (human/animal bond, veterinary/client interations and veterinarian psyschological stress).
