An exciting and niche opportunity has come about for a reliable, hardworking, and dedicated qualified veterinary nurse to apply, for a part time (leading to full time Aug 2022) role as a cardiology veterinary nurse at VSS Underwood/Carrara.
This role is including but not limited to:
Undertake general nursing tasks, animal pathology and emergency care relating to cardiac disease
Perform and assist in cardiology procedures when required including but not limited to sedation protocols, BP’s , radiography, venipuncture and restraint for echocardiography and ECG’s
Setting up and assisting with cardiac related procedures such as, but not limited to, thoracocentesis, pericardiocentesis and abdominocentesis
Deliver outstanding care to all patients and clients throughout the day
Maintain the flow of the day with case prioritising in conjunction with cardiologists
Application and removal of 24-hour ECG monitor systems
Managing medication requests and phone messages as needed throughout the day
Patient recheck reminders
The successful candidate will possess:
Cert IV in Veterinary nursing or BAppSc (Veterinary Technology) degree or equivalent to either.
Minimum of 2 years nursing experience in a busy general practice/emergency practice or referral hospital.
Can demonstrate excellent general handling skills of canine and feline patients.
Competent in drug calculations and administration
Competent with venepuncture and IV Cath placement
Smartflow and EzyVet experience is a bonus but not essential
PLEASE NOTE: For applicants with an excellent foundation of nursing experience and an interest to learn, many of the above cardiology-specific skills can be taught via hands-on learning with the senior cardiology nurses
Working in the only multi-cardiologist hospital practice in Australia, a motivated nurse in this position will be eligible to enrol in continuing education to achieve certification by the Academy of Internal Medicine for Veterinary Technicians (AIMVT) as a Veterinary technician specialist in cardiology.
