Oncology Nurse

Are you a dedicated, energetic, and compassionate person with a passion for oncology, who would like to work in an environment where patient care is prioritised?  

Do you have a veterinary technologist degree or Certificate IV in nursing, have more than 2 years’ experience and have a keen interest in Oncology?

The Opportunity 

Veterinary Specialist Services Underwood, has an opportunity available for a nurse who is passionate about delivering gold-standard care to patients and has a keen interest in oncology. 

Our nurses perform specialised, high-quality care for critical patients (acute and chronic), and ensure the hospital offers excellent service to our clients and optimum care to our patients. Our mission is to support our people to deliver the best outcomes for patients, their families and referring practices. 

 

About Us 

Veterinary Specialist Services is an established Small Animal referral practice in South East Queensland.  We have hospitals at Carrara, Jindalee, and Underwood. We are striving to create an environment where people can do their best work.  We have many things to work on to get there, but we are adapting as fast as possible.  Our teams are very passionate about delivering patient care whilst supporting each other.  We have a very diverse skill set and can offer just about all specialities, diagnostic modalities, and therapies across our practice group.

The Role includes but is not limited to:

  • Administering chemotherapy under veterinary supervision

  • Dispensing veterinary prescribed chemotherapy drugs

  • Updating chemotherapy flowcharts

  • Pathology and Histopathology coordination

  • Performing high quality care for all patients

  • Assist oncologist in minor procedures

  • Undertake daily treatments, routines, and nursing care of patients

  • Maintain a high level of hygiene in wards (dog, cat and treatment wards)

  • Demonstrate a compassionate, empathetic, and caring approach to all patients

  • Ensure safe handling techniques of animals are utilised by all staff in line with policy and procedures (OHS)

  • Ensure Hospital pain management protocols are adhered to at all times

  • Prepare equipment and instruments for specific procedures such as ultrasound and catheterisation as per policy and procedures or as directed

  • Ensure equipment and instruments are cleaned and maintained in line with polices and procedures or as directed

 

We are looking for a nurse who:

  • wants to further their career and specialise in oncology nursing

  • has high standards and very good attention to detail

  • is enthusiastic, honest and has the ability to work in in a fast-paced environment

  • has the ability to work sole charge and as part of a team

  • has knowledge of EzyVet/Smartflow (highly regarded but not essential)

  • A nurse that can work a rotating roster, Monday to Friday.

  • A nurse with a Cert IV in Veterinary Nursing with a keen interest in Oncology

  • A nurse with the ability to give support to other nurses, receptionists, veterinarians when and as required.
