European Specialist Small Animal Surgeon

Peter is a Brisbane local and completed his undergraduate veterinary degree at the University of Queensland in 2002. He moved to the UK in 2005 to have a short working holiday to "see the world". Instead, he remained there for 12.5 years collecting a wife and two beautiful daughters, and completed a surgical residency at the University of Bristol in 2012. During the residency he also completed the RCVS certificate in Small Animal Surgery and then passed the ECVS board certifying exams in 2013, qualifying as a European Veterinary Specialist in Small Animal Surgery. He has done further qualifications in teaching in higher education as well and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA).

Peter enjoys the challenges presented by all types of surgery, but has a particular interest in bone biology and bone fracture healing. To this end, he also has a PhD from the University of Bristol, studying the effects of mechanical loading on bone tissue and its relevance to osteoporosis in people. This research helps him understand the effects of bone loads on bone healing in pets as well

Peter has published scientific papers and presented scientific abstracts at conferences on a wide range of topics from fracture repair techniques to management of urinary incontinence in bitches through to basic scientific research papers on bone mechanobiology.

Peter's surgical interests lie in management of orthopaedic trauma, wound management and also urogenital surgery, yet he is happy to discuss and give advice on all aspects of small animal surgery
