A board certified veterinary ophthalmologist is a licensed veterinarian who has obtained intensive training in veterinary ophthalmology and has been certified by the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists (ACVO), European College of Veterinary Surgeons (ECVS), and The Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists (FANZCVS).

In order to treat eye conditions in companion animals, our ophthalmology service uses the most advanced technologies and methods.

What our specialist ophthalmology vets can treat

The Veterinary Specialist Services ophthalmology team prides itself on offering specialised knowledge and expertise, advanced diagnostics and high level of experience in the medical and surgical treatment of eye conditions in dogs, cats and unusual and exotic pets.

Common conditions our ophthalmologists can routinely diagnose and treat medically and /or
surgically in animal eyes may include:

  • Disease of the orbit, orbital imaging and orbital surgery
  • Eyelid entropion, eyelid inflammation, traumas, tumours, distichiasis, ectopic cilia (‘extra lashes’)
  • Dry eye, conjunctivitis, tear duct blockages
  • Third eyelid (‘cherry eye’), scrolled cartilage, third eyelid tumours
  • Corneal ulcers (medical, burring and grafting), sequestrum, crystalline opacities, endothelial dystrophy, pannus
