Johana grew up in Reunion Island and subsequently moved to Australia. She graduated from Murdoch University Veterinary School in Perth in 2003. Following two years spent in general practice in Darwin, she completed a small animal internship combined with a Masters Degree at the University of Melbourne.
Johana then undertook 4-year residency in veterinary ophthalmology at the University of Liege, Belgium and was admitted to the European College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists in 2013.
She worked as a Veterinary Ophthalmologist in the UK in private practice and was head of the Ophthalmology Unit at the Animal Health Trust before returning to Australia in 2017 where she worked at SASH in Sydney. Johana also has full specialist registration as a veterinary ophthalmologist in Australia.
She has trained several residents through the European College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists and Australian New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists. Johana is also a reviewer for several veterinary international journals. Her main research interests are in cataract and glaucoma surgery and ocular pharmacology.
She has now joined our ophthalmology team at VSS Jindalee and is available monday through to Thursday. Her particular interests are in cataract and glaucoma surgery.
In her spare time, Johana enjoys camping and trekking, scuba diving and spending time with her family.
