Cassie is a member of the veterinary team here at VSS Jindalee. She joined the team in July 2019 and has been a valued member since. Previously working as a veterinary nurse in a GP clinic in Sydney, Cassie was eager to continue expanding her knowledge in the animal health and applied for a vet tech internship with VSS.
The role
Cassie rotates between surgery and medicine and enjoys the variety of both. Her favourite tasks involve working on procedures, assisting dentistry and oncology.
Describing the impact of VSS on her career, Cassie says “VSS has contributed massively. I have learnt so much in the two and a half years I’ve been working here. The standard and level of care are amazing. I’ve learnt to do so many different treatments, procedures, and gained confidence in anaesthetic monitoring.”
Cassie describes the most challenging aspect of working with VSS as seeing others upset, “I find it difficult when I spend a generous amount of time nursing a patient when the end result isn’t in them getting better. Putting a lot of time, effort and care into a patient that may need to be put to sleep is difficult, especially seeing how their family responds.”
The culture
Cassie feels at home at VSS Jindalee, describing the team as her second family, “We are all very close, and I have definitely made friends for life.”
Homelife
Moving from Sydney to South East Queensland, Cassie is making the most of what the area has to offer. She loves anything to do with the outdoors including going to the beach, camping, playing sports, and hanging out with friends and family.
