Our Mobile Surgery Service is an extension of our long-running referral service. It draws on the strengths of our hospital-based teams, offering surgical procedures and physical examinations IN YOUR PRACTICE. This service is offered by Dr David Cook and the VSS surgery team on application.

We offer a traditional mobile surgical service where you engage a VSS surgeon to come to your practice and perform a surgical procedure on your patient.

The benefit of working with VSS for mobile surgery is that the broader team and hospital environment are available for back up, should it be required.

Education and Support for Veterinarians

Dr David Cook has taught many surgical residents who have gone on to become specialists. The educational component of this service includes:

Case discussion and advisory planning: book a physical or virtual appointment to discuss a specific case, understand the required steps, risks and complications and everything you need to do a great job of managing the case in your own practice.
Assistance completing the surgery: following the case assessment, you perform the surgical procedure in your own practice, with the knowledge that an experienced specialist surgeon is scrubbed in to help you through it.

FAQs for Vets

What are the fees?
Please refer to our pricing guide. We’re happy to discuss any case-specific consumables (e.g. implants, suture material or drape packs).

Who provides anaesthesia?
Your team will manage the anaesthetic and monitoring. We’ll work alongside your staff and may require you as a scrubbed-in assistant for some procedures.

What happens post-operatively?
The patient will remain in your care after surgery, where it will be most comfortable. We are happy to guide and support you throughout the recovery process (where needed). We are contactable at any time for questions or follow-up. In the event of a complication, we will work with you and the pet owner to ensure a successful resolution. Costs will depend on the nature and type of complication.

Do you provide checklists or client handouts?
Yes. We’ll send you a checklist to ensure everything is ready on the day. Post-op instructions for clients are also included. If needed, we’re happy to provide advice or referrals to colleagues within our hospitals.

Is there an agreement required?
Yes, we’ll provide a Host Clinic Agreement to formalise the process. Download our Host Clinic Agreement or reach out to learn more.
