There are lots of names for problems affecting a dog's knee (stifle).
Problems with the cranial cruciate ligament can also be called an ACL injury, a cruciate injury or tear, or a knee ligament tear. These problems can occur in any size or breed of dog and are usually treated with a surgical procedure called "TPLO".
Problems with the patella (kneecap) slipping in and out of place are usually called "medial patella luxation" but can be referred to as "patella luxation" or "MPL". These problems mostly occur in smaller breeds of dog but can affect any size of dog.
If your family vet has mentioned any of these problems in your dog or you have any concerns, please book a consultation with a highly experienced VSS surgeon. You can make a booking by phone or online - simply click on one of the below buttons.
