EMPLOYMENT

Weekend Vet at Cat Specialist Services

Are you a cat vet at heart? Do you have passion for patient care and would like to become an integral part of a genuinely multi-disciplinary team?

Do you think part-time weekend work might give you flexibility to spend week-days doing something else?

Do you have the ability to work independently with the support necessary for you to perform at your best?

We are looking for a veterinarian who loves cats to care for our hospitalised patients.

There will not be a requirement to see emergency cases as these are handled by a partnering emergency service. The role will involve assessment of hospitalised cats and discharging of patients at the weekend, with support of our specialists near at hand.

About us

Cat Specialist Services is a newly opening, referral only, purpose-built feline specialist hospital located in Underwood, Brisbane. We are partnered with Veterinary Specialist Services who are an established Small Animal referral practice in South East Queensland.

We are striving to create an environment where people can do their best work and maintain a healthy, work-life balance. We are passionate about cats and delivering the best feline care and support each other to do it.

We have two feline specialists and a feline resident and can offer cats onsite access to just about all specialities, diagnostic modalities and therapies.  We have onsite specialists in Internal Medicine, Small Animal Surgery, Anaesthesia, Cardiology, Emergency and Critical Care, Ophthalmology, Dermatology and Animal Physiotherapy.

We have residency training programs for vets and in house training programs for nurses. Within Veterinary Specialist Services over the years, about 20% of interns have gone on to become registered Specialists.

We are involved in the industry within professional groups, universities and continuing education courses.

What we are looking for

  • A person who can work independently in an afterhours setting but with the knowledge that full support (specialists and an emergency team) are near at hand.

  • A person who will be a genuine team player. We love to have a laugh and talk about cats. ALL THE TIME.

  • A person who understands that we all have a role to play, and that the ultimate outcome is to deliver the best possible care for cats, their families and our referring veterinarians.

  • A person who is genuinely adaptable - we are a new hospital and there will be tweaks required to make sure we have the best work-place we can.

  • A person who understands that when a cat needs us, we will do our utmost to be there and give it the care it needs.

  • A person with great communication skills who can “talk cat” and talk to their owners.

Why we hope you’ll want to join us

  • We like to look a cat memes and we practice multidisciplinary veterinary medicine at the Specialist level.

  • We really can offer just about any treatment, but we consider everything through the lens of our training programs and experience.

  • We have a “fear free” dogma for both cats and staff.

  • We are building the company with a focus on people, their careers and their development. This is a work in progress and we want the right people along for the journey.

  • We listen and try to respond to our people’s needs.  We are owned and run by veterinarians who work in the clinic and juggle family life which means we understand that life requires flexibility.

  • We have developed initiatives across the group such as Mental Health First Aid Officers, implementation of an Employee Assistance Program and have regular social events amongst a range of other benefits.
