TPLO Surgery for Ruptured Cruciate Ligament in Dogs - Gold Coast and Brisbane
)
At Veterinary Specialist Services Jindalee, Specialist Small Animal Surgeon, Dr Cormac O’Brolchain recently performed Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy (TPLO) surgery on Nalha, a 9-year-old Spoodle dog who was referred for a cranial cruciate ligament (CCL) injury.
Following arthroscopic examination, a complete CCL rupture alongside a significant meniscal tear was confirmed. To stabilise the stifle, a partial meniscectomy and TPLO were performed.
Throughout the TPLO surgery, two of our skilled nurses, Amy and Xin, played a vital role by managing her anaesthesia, ensuring this little dog's comfort and safety.
Nalha recovered well from the procedure and has since returned for her recheck appointment, demonstrating good progress; she is scheduled for follow-up radiographs in the coming weeks.
TPLO surgery remains one of the leading treatments for cruciate ligament disease in dogs. Unlike humans, where ACL injuries tend to be traumatic, dogs often experience a gradual degeneration of the cruciate ligament before rupture occurs. A TPLO surgical procedure alters the biomechanics of the stifle to restore joint stability, without relying on the damaged ligament, resulting in excellent long-term outcomes.
We offer TPLO surgery at all Veterinary Specialist Services hospitals across Brisbane and the Gold Coast, including Jindalee, Underwood and Carrara. For more detailed information, please visit https://www.vss.net.au/videos/cruciate-ligament-surgery.html.
We remain committed to working closely with referring veterinarians to provide comprehensive orthopaedic care and ongoing support for all our referred patients.
